Mariela is a local reporter for Napa Valley News Group covering topics ranging from integrating AI tools in city governments to culture-driven stories of health and the economy. She obtained her Master’s in Journalism from the University of Southern California and is a first-generation Mexican American. Mariela has reported for Telemundo23, and NBCLA, and previously volunteered at the Superior Court of Orange County as a mediator for Spanish-speaking plaintiffs. Deeply passionate about issues affecting California, she was born and raised in Salinas to parents from Jalisco. As a CBS, Paramount Plus scholarship recipient in college, she credits this support with enabling her pursuit of higher education. She aspires to one day work with a foundation to provide similar opportunities for others.

In her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga and spending time with her family.
